description
The LTC ® 1421/LTC1421-2.5 hot-swappable ™ controller allows boards to be safely inserted and removed from the live backplane. Using an external N-channel transistor, the board's supply voltage can be sufficient to hold a programmable rate. Two high-side switching drivers control the gates of the N-channel with a voltage range from 3V to 12V from the supply voltage.
A programmable electronic circuit breaker protects the agianst shorts. Warning signs indicate that the circuit breaker has tripped, one power supply has failed, or the switching driver has been shut down. The reset output can be used to generate a power cycle or to reset the system in the event of a failure. These two connection inputs can be used to indicate board insertion or removal of the staggered connector pins. Power-on reset input, which can be used to cycle the board's power supply or clear the circuit breaker.
