The LTC™1553 is a high-power, high-efficiency switching regulator controller optimized for applications with 5V or 12V inputs from 1.8V to 3.5V outputs. It features a digitally programmable output voltage, precise internal reference, and internal feedback system that provides 1.5% output accuracy, typically 2% at room temperature and overtemperature, and changes in load current and line voltage. LTC1553 uses a synchronous switching architecture of two external N-channel output devices to provide high efficiency and eliminate the need for high-power, costly P-channel devices. In addition, it senses the output current of the N-channel FET on-resistor throughout the upper layer, eliminating the need for an external low-value inductor resistor to provide an adjustable current limit. LTC1553 runs at 300kHz for faster external clock synchronization if needed. It includes all inputs and outputs required to implement a power supply that meets the VRM 8.2 DC/DC converter specifications for Intel Pentium II processors.
