The LTC ® 1627 is a monolithic current-mode synchronous buck regulator that uses a fixed frequency architecture. The operating power supply range drops from 8.5V to 2.65V, making it suitable for applications powered by one or two lithium-ion batteries. Burst mode operation provides high efficiency at low load currents. A 100% duty cycle provides low voltage drop operation, thereby extending the operating time of battery-powered systems. The internal operating frequency is set at 350kHz, allowing for the use of small surface-mount inductors. For applications sensitive to switching noise, it can be externally synchronized up to 525kHz. The control pins of the synchronous/FCB ensure secondary winding supervision, regardless of the main output load through forced continuous operation. Burst mode operation is suppressed during synchronization or when the synchronous/FCB pin is pulled low to reduce noise and RF interference. Soft start is provided by an external capacitor. Optional guidance enhances the internal switching driver for single-cell lithium-ion battery applications. The internal synchronous switch improves efficiency and eliminates the need for an external Schottky diode, saving component and circuit board space. LTC1627 from 8-lead SO packaging.
