The LTC ® 1736 is a synchronous step-down switching regulator controller optimized for CPU power. Consists of a 5-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with adjustable output voltage from 0.925V to 2.00V, programmed according to Intel Mobile VID specification output voltage. The 0.8V benchmark is compatible with future microprocessors. The operating frequency (can be synchronized to 500kHz) is allowed for maximum flexibility by an external capacitor, thus optimizing efficiency. Monitor the output voltage by a power-good window comparator when the output is 7.5% of its programmed value. Protection features include internal foldback current limit, output overvoltage protection crowbar, and optional short-circuit shutdown. Soft start is supplied by an external capacitor that can be sequenced correctly. With an external current sense resistor, the operating current level is user-programmable. Wide input voltage range from 3.5V to 30V (36V maximum). The pin eliminates Burst Mode ™ operation to provide high efficiency at low load currents. OPTI-LOOP compensation allows transient response to be optimized over a wide range of output capacitance and ESR values.
