In addition, the LTC™1755/LTC1756 general-purpose smart card interfaces are fully compliant with ISO 7816 and EMV specifications. The section provides the smallest and simplest interface circuit between the host microcontroller and the general-purpose smart card.

An internal charge-pump DC/DC converter provides regulatory 3V smart cards or 5V, while on-chip level shifters allow connection to low-voltage controllers. All smart card contacts are rated at 10kV ESD, eliminating the need for external ESD protection devices.

The input voltage range can be from 2.7V to 6.0V and can be connected directly to the battery. Internal soft-start alleviates startup problems that can occur when input power is supplied by another regulator. Multiple devices can be connected in parallel and connected to a single-controller multi-card application.

Battery life is a maximum of 60μA operating current and 1μA shutdown current. Narrow SSOP package minimizes printed circuit board area for compact portable systems.
