The controller operates in critical conduction mode, allowing for the use of a small transformer. The controller uses a novel current sensing scheme that delivers a well-regulated current to the secondary end without the need for an optocoupler. This device has a powerful gate driver built into it to drive an external high-voltage MOSFET. The LT3799-1 utilizes a built-in multiplier that typically achieves a power factor of 0.97. The FAULT pin is responsible for informing the open-circuit and short-circuit LED conditions. The LT3799-1 has better voltage regulation than the LT3799, but is not designed for use with TRIAC dimmers. The LT3799-1 uses micropower hysteresis start for efficient operation with an off-line input voltage and a third winding to power the device.
