LTC®The 486 is a low power differential bus/line driver designed for multipoint data transfer standard RS485 applications with an extended common-mode range (-7V to 12V). They are also RS422 compliant.

Compared to its bipolar counterpart, the CMOS design offers significant energy savings without sacrificing robustness against overload or ESD damage.

The driver has a three-state output and the driver output maintains high impedance over the entire common-mode range. Thermal shutdown circuits are used to prevent excessive power consumption caused by bus contention or faults, which force the driver output into a high-impedance state.

The device's AC and DC specifications are guaranteed over the 0°C to 70°C (commercial), -40°C to 85°C (industrial) temperature ranges, and supply voltage ranges of 4.75V to 5.25V.
