Maxim's ICL7129A/MAX7129 are high-precision monolithic 4-1-/2-bit A/D converters that directly drive a multiplexed liquid crystal display. Using a new "continuous integration" technique, the ICL7129A/MAX7129 ± 20,000 count resolution in the 2.00000V and 200.00mV ranges. It has high impedance differential inputs, excellent differential linearity, true ratio operation, and automatic polarity. The only external active component that needs to be made to an accurate DVM/DPM is a reference. Overrange and underrange output and 10:1 range change input easy auto-tuning system design. The ICL7129A/MAX7129 detect and flag low-battery status, and also check for continuity, giving a visual indication and logic-level output that can be used to generate audio signals.

The MAX7129 features 0.0005% full-scale accuracy, 10μV resolution, zero readout drift of 0.5μV/°C, input bias of up to 10pA, and rollover error of less than 1 count. Maxim has reduced the noise of the ICL7129A by 3μV, significantly lower than the MAX7129.
