Microphone amplifier with AGC and low-noise microphone bias

MAX9814 is a low-cost, high-quality microphone amplifier with automatic gain control (AGC) and low-noise microphone bias. The device features a low-noise preamplifier, variable gain amplifier (VGA), output amplifier, microphone bias voltage generator, and AGC control circuitry.

The low-noise front fixes 12 dB gain, while the VGA gain adjusts from 20dB to 0dB auto-adjusted based on output voltage and AGC threshold. The output amplifier offers selectable gain of 8 dB, 18 dB, and 28 dB. Uncompressed, cascading amplifiers at 40dB at 50dB, or 60dB total gain. Gain of a trilevel digital input/output amplifier. An external resistor divider controls the AGC threshold and capacitance scheme for a single attack/release time. A trilevel digital input program is the ratio of the attack release time. The AGC hold time at 30 ms is fixed. Low-noise microphone bias voltage generator biases most electret microphones.

MAX9814 is in a space-saving 14-pin TDFN package. The device is specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended stage temperature range.
