The MAX9814 is a low-cost, high-quality microphone amplifier with automatic gain control (AGC) and low-noise microphone bias. The device features a low noise preamplifier, variable gain amplifier (VGA), output amplifier, microphone bias voltage generator, and AGC control circuitry.

The low noise prefix 12dB gain, while the VGA gain is automatically adjusted from 20dB to 0dB, depending on the output voltage and AGC threshold. The output amplifier offers selectable gains of 8 dB, 18 dB, 28 dB. Uncompressed, the amplifier cascades at 40dB for 50dB, or 60dB for total gain. The gain of a trilevel digital input-output amplifier. An external resistor divider controls the AGC threshold and capacitance scheme single attack/release time. A trilevel number enters the proportion of the attack release time of the program. The AGC hold time at 30 ms is fixed. Low noise microphone bias voltage generator biases most electret microphones.

The MAX9814 is available in a space-saving 14-pin TDFN package. The device is specified over the extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
