The MFRC522 is a highly integrated oneRead/write ICfor contactless communication at 13.56 MHz. The MFRC522 reader supports ISO/IEC 14443 A/MIFARE mode.
The MFRC522's internal transmitter requires no additional active circuitry to drive a read/write antenna designed for communication with ISO/IEC 14443 A/MIFARE cards and transmitter transponders. The receiver module provides a powerful and efficient demodulation and decoding circuit for ISO/IEC 14443A/MIFARE compliant cards and transmit transponder signals. The digital module manages the full ISO/IEC 14443 A framing and error detection (parity and CRC) functions.
The MFRC522 supports MF1xxS20, MF1xxS70, and MF1xxS50 products. The MFRC522 supports two-way contactless communication using MIFARE speeds up to 848 kBd.
The following host interfaces are available:
- Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI)
- Serial UART (similar to RS232, voltage level depends on pin voltage supply)
- I²C-bus interface
Differences between versions 1.0 and 2.0
The MFRC522 is available in two versions:
- MFRC52201HN1, hereinafter referred to as version 1.0
- MFRC52202HN1, hereinafter referred to as version 2.0
MFRC522 version 2.0 is fully compatible with version 1.0 and provides features and improvements in addition to the following:
- Reader ICs offer higher stability under harsh conditions
- Additional timer prescaler
- Corrected CRC processing when RX Multiple is set to 1
-
