Texas Instruments' MSP430 ultra-low-power microcontroller family includes multiple devices with peripheral sets for a variety of different applications. The architecture, combined with five low-power modes, is optimized to extend battery life in portable measurement applications. The device has a powerful 16-bit RISC CPU, 16-bit registers, and contributes to maximum code efficiency constantly. A digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) allows wake-up from a low-power mode in aggressive mode in less than 1 microsecond.

The MSP430F22xx family of ultra-low-power mixed-signal microcontrollers features two built-in 16-bit timers, a universal serial communication interface, a 10-bit A/D converter with an integrated reference and data transfer controller (DTC) converter, two general-purpose operational amplifiers in the MSP430F22x4 device and 32 I/O pins.
