Texas Instruments' MSP430 ultra-low-power microcontroller family includes multiple devices with peripheral sets for a variety of different applications. The architecture, with five low-power modes combined, is optimized to achieve extended battery life in portable measurement applications. The device features a powerful 16-bit RISC CPU, 16-bit registers, and contributes to maximum code efficiency generators. The digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) allows wake-up from low-power mode in active mode for no more than 5 microseconds.

The MSP430F543x and MSP430F541x series are three 16-bit timers, a high-performance microcontroller-configured 12-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converter, four universal serial communication interfaces (USCI), hardware multipliers, DMA, true real-time clock modules with alarm functions, and up to 87 I/O pins.
