The first member of TI's family of general-purpose operational amplifiers to the new bipolar metal-oxide semiconductor is the TLC07x. The idea in the Bipolar Metal-Oxide Semiconductor family is simple: provide an upgrade path for BiFET users who are moving away from dual-power single-supply systems and demanding higher AC and DC performance. With performance scores ranging from 4.5 V to 16 V in commercial (0°C to 70°C) and extended industrial temperature ranges (-40°C to 125°C), bipolar metal-oxide semiconductors are suitable for a wide range of audio, automotive, industrial, and instrumentation applications. Familiar features such as the zero-bias pin enable higher levels of performance in a variety of applications.

Developed in TI's patented LBC3 BiCMOS process, the new bipolar metal-oxide semiconductor amplifier combines a very high input impedance low-noise CMOS front end with a high drive bipolar output stage, thus enabling the best performance characteristics of both worlds. Improvements in AC performance of the TL07x's BiFET predecessors include 10 MHz bandwidth (300% increase) and 7 voltage noise Nevada/ hertz(60% improvement in the first phase). DC improvements include a reduction in the input offset voltage to a standard level of 1.5 millivolts (max) in 4 factors, and a power supply rejection greater than 40 dB improved to 130 dB. The ability to join this impressive list of features allows them to come from an ultra-small footprint using MSOP to the PowerPAD™ package, which positions it as ideal for the TLC07x ± 50 mA load comfort of the high-performance general-purpose operational amplifier series.
