TPS40040 and TPS40041 DC-to-DC controllers are designed for input sources from 2.25 V to 5.5 V. To reduce the number of external components, some operating parameters are fixed internal, which is, frequency, soft start time, and the level of short circuit protection (SCP). For example, TPS40040/1 operates at 300 kHz/600 respectively.

Three short-circuit threshold levels, one of which can be optionally increased by the COMP pin from the outside to the circuit ground resistance. On the power supply, when the output voltage rises with the previous internal soft-start command, TPS40040/1 enters the calibration cycle, measuring the COMP pin current output and selecting a threshold voltage for an internal SCP.
