This TPS40042-type DC/DC controller is designed and operated between 3.0 V and 5.5 V, reducing the number of external components and the number of operating parameters being fixed to the internal input source. For example, in the operating frequency, the internal setting is 600 kHz.

Three short-circuit threshold levels, one of which can optionally be added by the COMP pin to ground from an external resistance circuit (no resistance is the default setting). On the power supply, and when the output voltage of the previous internal soft-start command rises, TPS40042 enter the calibration cycle, measure the COMP pin current output, and select an internal SCP threshold voltage. At the end of the 1.5 ms calibration time, the output voltage is allowed to enter a soft-start.
