The TPS40056 is part of a family of high-voltage, wide-input, synchronous, step-down converters. The TPS40056 offers user-programmable features including soft start, operating frequency, high-side current limiting, loop compensation, and flexibility in various designs. The TPS40056 can also be synchronized to an external supply. It adopts an external N-channel high-side MOSFET gate driver for a synchronous rectifier (SR) MOSFET. A drive logic gate reverse circuit is used to prevent cross-conduction, synchronous high-side, and synchronous rectifier conduction. Externally programmable short-circuit protection provides pulse current limiting of pulses, as well as hiccup mode operation, taking advantage of the long duration of internal fault durations for heavy-duty counters.
