The TPS40074 is a medium-voltage, wide-input (4.5 V to 28 V) synchronous, step-down controller designed to provide user-programmable features including a variety of flexible, soft-start, undervoltage lockout, operating frequency, voltage feedback forward, and high-side FET sense short-circuit protection.

The TPS40074 integrates an external N-channel high-side and a synchronous rectifier (SR) MOSFET gate driver for the MOSFET. The integrated gate drive logic 2nd generation predicts the inverse circuit to prevent cross-conduction while simultaneously conducting on the high-side and synchronous rectifiers, while minimizing the current in the body diode of the SR FET to eliminate it. The TPS40074 can enter the prebias output larger than the existing prebias voltage to initially not allow the synchronous rectifier FET until the command is placed at the soft start voltage.
