Since the TPS40190 is a cost-optimized synchronous buck controller, it operates from 4.5 V to 15 V and implements a fixed-frequency voltage mode supply. The controller uses an adaptive reverse cross-conduction mechanism to prevent both high-side and rectified MOSFETs from being turned on at the same time, preventing current from being shot through both MOSFETs.
The controller also provides a short-circuit protection threshold, which is one of three values between users. The protection level sets a single external connection to the ground resistance from the game. During the start-up process, the impedance connected to the game is felt, the information is decoded, and one of the three thresholds is selected.
