The TPS40192 and TPS40193 are cost-optimized synchronous buck controllers that operate from a 4.5 V to 18 V input. These controllers are implemented in either a voltage-mode control architecture with a fixed switching frequency of 600 kHz (TPS40192) or 300 kHz (TPS40193). Higher switching frequencies facilitate smaller inductors and output capacitors, providing a compact power solution. An adaptive anti-crossover scheme is used to prevent current from being shot at the power FET.
Short-circuit detection is performed by detecting the voltage drop of the low-side MOSFET across the opposite side and comparing it to the threshold of 100 millivolts, 200 millivolts, or 280 millivolts. The threshold sets a single external connection to the ground resistance from the game.
