The power solution for the TPS6300x device provides a product aspect powered by a two-cell or three-cell alkaline battery, a nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal hydride battery, or a single lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery. The output current can be up to 1200 mA using a single lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery and discharged to 2.5V or less. The buck-boost converter is fixed-frequency-based, and the pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller uses synchronous rectification for maximum benefit. At low load currents, the converter enters power-saving mode to maintain high efficiency over a wide load current range. Power saving mode can be disabled, forcing the converter to fix the switching frequency. The maximum average switching current is limited to a typical value of 1800 mA.
