The TPS6302x device provides a power solution powered by a two-cell or three-cell alkaline battery, a nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal hydride battery, or a single lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery. The output current can be up to 3A in a single Li-ion or Li-polymer battery and discharged to 2.5V or less. The buck-boost converter is fixed-frequency-based, and the pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller uses synchronous rectification for maximum benefit. At low load currents, the converter enters power-saving mode to maintain high efficiency over a wide load current range. Power saving mode can be disabled, forcing the converter to fix the switching frequency. The maximum average current in the switch is limited to the typical value for 4A strips.
