Description/Ordering Information

The TRS3318E is a dual-drive, dual-receiver and RS-232 compatible transceiver. The device features automatic power-off plus and enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection integrated into the chip. Driver output and receiver input protection ± 15 kV using IEC 61000-4-2 air gap discharge method, ± 8 kV using IEC 61000-4-2 contact discharge method, using and ± 15 kV human body model (HBM).

The device operates at a data rate of 460 kbps. The transceiver has a proprietary low dropout driver output stage capable of operating from a 2.25 V RS-232 compliant supply to a 3 V dual charge pump supply. When the charge pump requires only four 0.1μF capacitors and has a logic level output (ready) assertion, the charge pump regulation and device are ready to start transferring.

The TRS3318E achieves an automatic power-down function using a 1μA supply current. This device automatically enters a low-power power-down mode when the RS-232 cable is disconnected or the driver for the connected peripheral device is inactive for more than 30 seconds When the device is turned on, any driver or receiver input is detected again as a valid transition. Automatic power-off does not save changes to existing BIOS or operating system features.

The device is available in two space-saving packages: a 20-pin SSOP and a 20-pin TSSOP package.
