The device features automatic power-off plus and enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection integrated into the chip. Driver output and receiver input protection ± 15 kV using IEC 61000-4-2 air-gapped discharge method, ± 8 kV using IEC 61000-4-2 contact discharge method, using and ± 15 kV human body model (HBM). The device operates at a data rate of 460 kbps. The transceiver has a proprietary low-dropout driver output stage capable of operating from a 2.25-V RS-232 compliant supply with a 3 V dual-charge pump supply. The charge pump requires only 4 capacitors of 0.1μF and has a logic level output (ready) asserts that the charge pump conditioning and the device is ready to start transmitting. The TRS3318E realizes an automatic power-off function using a supply current of 1μA. This device automatically enters a low-power power-down mode when the RS-232 cable is disconnected or the driver of the connected peripheral is inactive for more than 30 seconds when the device is turned on and any driver or receiver input is detected again when the transition is valid. Automatic power-off does not save the ability to change the existing BIOS or operating system. The device is available in two space-saving packages: a 20-pin SSOP and a 20-pin TSSOP package.
