The TRSF3221E consists of a line driver, a line receiver, and a dual charge pump with ± 15 kV ESD protection in accordance with IEC pin-to-pin (serial port connection pins, including ground) circuitry. The TRSF3221E provides an electrical interface for an asynchronous communication controller and a serial port connector. The charge pump and four small external capacitors allow for operation from a single 3-V to a 5.5 V supply. The TRSF3221E operates at a data signal rate of up to 1 Mbit/s and a slew rate of 150 V/μs with a driver output of 24 V/μs.

When flexible control options for power management, the serial port is invalid. When the automatic power saving function function, FORCEON is low and FORCEOFF is high. In this mode of operation, the driver output is prohibited if there is no meaningful TRSF3221E valid RS-232 receiver input signal. If the FORCEOFF setting is low, the enable (EN) input is high, the driver and receiver are turned off, and the supply current is reduced to 1 microamperere. Disconnecting or closing the peripheral drive of the serial port leads to automatic power loss. FORCEON and FORCEOFF can be disabled when the automatic power off is high. With automatic power saving function, the device is automatically applied to the receiver input when a valid signal is activated. Invalid output notifies the user if an RS-232 signal receiver input is present. Invalid high (valid data) if the receiver input voltage is greater than 2.7 V or less than -2.7 volts, or if there is a V between -0.3 and 0.3 V for less than 30 microseconds. Invalid is low (invalid data) if the receiver input voltage is between -0.3 V or 0.3 V more than 30.
