Overview:
The TSL2571-to-digital device family includes photodiode chips, integrated amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), batteries, clocks, buffers, comparators, a state machine, and an I2C interface. The device combines a photodiode (CH0), which responds to visible and infrared light, and a photodiode (CH1), which responds primarily to infrared light. Two integrated ADCs simultaneously amplify the photodiode current and convert it to digital values, providing up to 16-bit resolution. After the conversion cycle is complete, the conversion results are transferred to the data registers. Lux's illuminance (ambient light level) derives using an empirical formula approximating the response of the human eye, which can be read by a microprocessor.
