UC2874-2 High efficiency synchronous step-down (buck) controller

The UC3874 series provides high efficiency power conversion from an input voltage range of 4.5 to 36 volts in synchronous buck (buck) regulation. The UC3874 is designed for battery-powered applications such as notebook computers, consumer products, communication systems and aerospace applications requiring high performance and long battery life. The synchronous regulator replaces the low RDS(ON) N-channel MOSFET switch with significantly improved efficiency, allowing the clamping diode to be clamped in a standard buck regulator. The high-side N-channel MOSFET switch is driven out from the low-side N-channel MOSFET switch by an on-chip bootstrap circuit, requiring only an external phase capacitor, and developing a standardized gate drive.
