The PWM control IC UC3848 series makes the primary side average current mode controlled isolator switch converter practical. Average current mode control ensures that the peak switching current and maximum average inductor current for both cycles are clear and will not be operated in a very short circuit. The UC3848 can be used to control converters for multiple topologies.

In addition to the basic functions required for pulse width modulation, the UC3848 implements a patented technology for sensing the primary and secondary currents of a step-down converter isolated from the primary side. A current waveform synthesizer and analog display switch current inductor downhill, so that a complete current waveform can build up current on the primary and secondary sides without actually measuring the current.
