The UC3853 provides simple, yet high-performance active power factor correction. As the UC1854 uses the same control technology, the 8-pin device utilizes a simplified architecture and an internal oscillator to reduce the number of external components. The UC3853 utilizes a sophisticated multiplier/square/divider circuit, voltage and current loop error amplifier, high-precision voltage reference and implementation with RMS mean line voltage compensation current mode control. This control technology minimizes the change of input voltage input line current distortion over a global scale while maintaining the input voltage, and the continuous closed-loop gain.

The internal 75kHz oscillator includes an external clock input that allows synchronization to the downstream converter.
