The UC3853 provides simple, yet high-performance active power factor correction. As the UC1854 uses the same control technology, this 8-pin device utilizes a simplified architecture and internal oscillator to reduce external component count. The UC3853 employs precision multiplier/square/divider circuitry, voltage and current loop error amplifiers, a precision voltage reference, and implements current-mode control with RMS average line voltage compensation. This control technique keeps closed-loop gain while maintaining the input voltage, minimizing the worldwide variation in input voltage input line current distortion.

The internal 75kHz oscillator includes an external clock input that allows synchronization to downstream converters.
