This UC1901 series is designed to solve many of the problems associated with closing a feedback control loop through a voltage-isolated boundary. As a stable and reliable alternative to optical couplers, these devices feature an amplitude modulation system that allows a loop of error signals to be coupled to a small RF transformer or capacitive.

The programmable, high-frequency oscillators within the UC1901 series allow for smaller, cheaper and easily built isolation transformer requirements to meet the requirements of the isolation transformers used in today's line-powered systems. As an alternative to RF, external clock inputs to these devices can be synchronized to the system clock or to a switching power supply switching frequency.
