This UC1901 series is designed to solve many of the problems associated with shutting down the feedback control loop through the voltage isolation boundary. As a stable and reliable alternative optical coupler, these devices feature an amplitude modulation system that allows a ring error signal to be coupled with a small RF transformer or capacitor.

The programmable, high-frequency oscillators inside the UC1901 series allow for smaller, cheaper and can be easily built to meet the requirements of isolation transformers used in today's line-powered systems. As an alternative to RF, external clock inputs to these devices can be synchronized to the system clock or to a switching power switching frequency.
