Description/Ordering Information
The UCC2818A provides all the features necessary for the active power factor correction preconditioner. The controller realizes that by shaping the AC input current waveform, the corresponding AC input line voltage and power factor are close. The average current mode control maintains a stable, low-distortion sinusoidal current.
Designed with Texas Instruments' BiCMOS process, UCC2818A offers new features such as low start-up current, reduced power consumption, overvoltage protection, shunt undervoltage lockout detection circuitry, a leading modulation technology to reduce ripple current at large capacitance, and improved low-offset (± 2 mV) current amplifiers to reduce distortion under light load conditions.
The PFC controller's UCC2818A direct pin-to-pin compatibility is compatible with UCC2818 devices. Only UCC2818A output stage has been modified to allow for the use of a smaller external gate drive resistance value. For some places where the power supply is sufficient and high enough gate drive resistors cannot be used by design, UCC2818A provide a more powerful output stage with internal gate resistors at increased cost. The UC2818A gate driven, however, is still ± 1.2 peak current capability.
UCC2818A is for applications with a fixed power supply (V CC). It is available in a 16-pin D-type package.
