The UCC28510 series of combined PFC/PWM controllers provides complete control functions for any offline power required with IEC1000-3-2 harmonic reduction systems. By combining the control and drive signals of PFC and PWM stages into a single device, significant performance and cost advantages are beneficial. The ripple current in the boost capacitor is minimized by managing the two-stage mechanism of modulation (for PFC-leading modulation and PWM modulation with trailing edge).
Based on an average current mode control architecture, the input voltage is fed forward by the PFC/PWM combo controller, which provides performance benefits to these devices. Two new key features are programmable PWM maximum duty cycle and the option base PFC frequency of 2 PWM frequencies.
