The UCC1889 controller is optimized for use with offline, low-power, low-voltage, regulated bias power supplies. Unique circuit topology, this device can be seen as two cascaded flyback converters, each in continuous operation, driven from a single external power switch. The significant advantages of this method are the ability to achieve a voltage conversion ratio of 400V and transformerless internal losses as low as 12V.
The control algorithm used by the UCC1889 is an input voltage that forces the switching time to be inversely proportional, while the off-time switch is an inversely proportional output voltage. This action is referenced by an internal automatic feedback control loop and reference.
