The UCC3817A and UCC3818A families provide all the features necessary for active power factor correction preregulators. The controller realizes that by shaping the AC input current waveform, the corresponding AC input line voltage, the power factor is close. Average current mode control maintains stable, low-distortion sinusoidal line current.
Designed in Texas Instruments' BiCMOS process, the UCC3817A/UCC3818A provide new features such as low start-up current, reduced power consumption, overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout detection shunt circuit, leading modulation techniques to reduce bulk capacitance with ripple current through improved, low-offset (± 2 millivolt) current amplifiers to reduce distortion at light load conditions.
