The UDN2987LW-6 driver provides overcurrent protection for its eight source outputs and serves as an interface between standard low-level logic and relays, motors, solenoids, LEDs, and incandescent lamps. These devices include thermal shutdown and output transient protection/clamping diodes for use at 35 volts hold.
In these drives, each channel includes a latch that shuts down the channel when the maximum channel current is exceeded. When the overheating shutdown is initiated, all channels are disabled. Common fault outputs are used to indicate chip overheating shutdown or any overcurrent conditions. Enable all outputs by pulling common OE/R inputs up. When OE/R is low, all outputs are prohibited and eight latches are reset. The OE/R function is especially important for powering up and preventing the floating input from opening the output.
Under normal operating conditions, the eight outputs will receive more than 100 milliamps continuously at 25°C ambient temperature and 35 volts supply. The overcurrent fault circuit has a supply voltage of up to 30 volts to prevent a ground short circuit in the device,
