LMS202E functions two transmitters and two receivers for RS-232 communication. It features a DC-to-DC converter that allows the device to operate with only a single +5 V power supply. The on-chip DC-to-DC converter utilizes four external 0.1μF capacitors to generate an internal power supply that is dual-compatible with RS-232 output levels.
The device complies with EIA/TIA-232E and CCITT V.28 specifications at 230kbits/sec. LMS202E is in a 16-pin narrow and wide SOIC package.
The transmitter output and receiver input are protected against electrostatic discharge (ESD) ± 15kV. LMS202E survive an ESD event of ± 15kV is subject to the input and output pins of the mannequin or the air-gapped specification RS-232 according to IEC 1000-4-2 (EN61000-4-2). It survives a discharge of ± 8kV and is subject to IEC 1000-4-2 (EN61000-4-2), contact specification. This device is designed for use in harsh environments, where the Public Service Electronic Program is a concern.
