A3988 isQuad DMOS full-bridge drives, can drive two stepper motors or four DC motors. Each full-bridge output can reach 1.2 amps and 36 volts. The A3988 includes a fixed-downtime pulse-width modulation (PWM) current regulator and a 2-bit nonlinear DAC (digital-to-analog converter) that allows full-, half-, and quarter-step mode control for stepper motors and forward, reverse, and free shutdown modes for DC motors.PWM current regulatorUse Allegro's® patented hybrid attenuation mode to reduce audible motor noise, increase step accuracy, and reduce power dissipation.
Internal synchronous rectification control circuitry is used to improve power consumption during pulse-width modulation (PWM) operation.
Protection features include thermal shutdown due to hysteresis, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and crossover current protection. No special power-on sequencing is required.
The A3988 is available in EV and JP packages with exposed power plates for enhanced thermal performance. The EV is available in a 6mm x 6mm 6mm QFN package with a nominal overall package height of 0.90 mm. JP is a 7mm × 7mm 48-pin LQFP. Both packages are lead (Pb) free and feature 100% matte tin leadframe plating.
