The A4970 motor drive drives the two windings of a bipolar stepper motor or controls two DC motors in both directions. Both bridges can maintain 45 volts and include internal pulse-width modulation (PWM) control of 750 milliamps output current.
For PWM current control, the maximum output current depends on the user-selected reference voltage and inductive resistor. The selectable output current of the two logic level inputs is limited to 0%, 33%, 67%, or 100% of the maximum level. The "phase" input of each bridge determines the direction of the load current.
The intrinsic diode in the output structure of the MOSFET prevents inductive transients. Internally generated delays avoid cross-currents when switching current directions. No special power-up sequencing is required. Thermal protection circuitry disables the output when the chip temperature exceeds the safe operating limit.
The device package is a 24-pin surface-mount wide-body SOIC with two pairs of bat pins (LBs). The interlaced structure of the pins allows the device to achieve maximum heat dissipation in the smallest amount of space. The package is lead-free and features a 100% matte tin-plated pinframe.
