The AD8802 and AD8804 are both 12-channel potentiometer divider TrimDAC® digital-to-analog converters that provide independent digitally controlled voltage outputs in a compact 20-pin package. It can replace the mechanical regulator function in a new design and is ideal for DC voltage regulation applications.
The AD8802 features mid-range presets that can be easily programmed via a serial interface microcontroller port, making it ideal for replacing potentiometers that are adjusted from nominal values. These devices are ideal for a wide range of applications, such as gain control in video amplifiers, voltage control frequency and bandwidth in video equipment, geometry correction and auto-regulation in CRT computer graphics displays, and more. The AD8804 is capable of independently controlling the top and low ends of the potentiometer divider, allowing the zero-level voltage setting to be determined separately via the VREFL pin. This feature helps to achieve maximum resolution for devices with a limited allowable voltage control range.
Both the AD8802 and AD8804 have 12 voltage output digital-to-analog converters (DACs) that share a reference input.
Each DAC has its own DAC latch to maintain its output state, which is updated by an internal serial to parallel shift register that loads data from a standard three-wire serial input digital interface. The serial data input word is decoded, and the first 4 bits determine the DAC latch address that needs to load the last 8 bits of data. When powered from a 5 V supply, the AD8802/AD8804 consumes only 10 μA. In addition, the reference input power consumption is reduced to 10 μA in shutdown mode, leaving only the DAC latch settings for use when returning to normal operating mode.
The AD8802/AD8804 are available in three packages: a 20-pin molded DIP, a SOIC-20 surface mount, and a 1 mm low-profile TSSOP-20 package.
