The ADuM1400 is a 4/0 channel directional quad digital isolator using Analog Devices, InciCoupler® technology. These isolation devices combine high-speed CMOS with monolithic air-core transformer technology to provide superior performance characteristics over alternative devices such as optocouplers.
iCoupler devices do not use LEDs and photodiodes, so there are no design difficulties typically associated with optocouplers. simpleiThe Coupler digital interface and stable performance characteristics eliminate the uncertain current transfer ratio, nonlinear transfer function, and temperature and lifetime effects typically associated with optocouplers.
theseiCoupler products do not require external drivers and other discrete components. In addition, in the case of comparable signal data rates,iCoupler devices consume only 1/10 to 1/6 of the power of optocouplers.
The ADuM140x family of isolators offers four independent isolation channels that support multiple channel configurations and data rates (refer to the Ordering Guide section of the data sheet). All models operate from supply voltages from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, are compatible with low-voltage systems, and are capable of voltage conversion across the isolation barrier. In addition, the ADuM140x features low pulse width distortion (CRW level less than 2 ns) and tight channel-to-channel matching (CRW stage less than 2 ns). Unlike other optocouplers, the ADuM140x isolators have a patented refresh feature that ensures dc correctness in the absence of input logic transitions and in the absence of a power supply.
