The LM2671 series of regulators are monolithic integrated circuits with a built-in LMDMOS process. These regulators provide all buck (buck) switching regulators capable of driving a 500mA load with excellent line and load regulation current positives. These devices are available in fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5.0V, 12V, and adjustable output versions.

Requiring a minimum number of external components, these regulators are simple to use and include internal frequency compensation patents (patent numbers 5382918 and 5514947), fixed frequency oscillators, external shutdown, soft start, and frequency synchronization.

The LM2671 series switches operate at a switching frequency 260 kHz This allows for a small size ratio with the lower frequency switching regulator required for the filter assembly. Due to its very high efficiency (> 90%), copper traces of the printed circuit board are the only heat dissipation required.

A home use LM2671 standard inductor is available from several different manufacturers. This feature greatly simplifies the design of switching power supplies using these advanced integrated circuit supplies. Also included in the datasheet is a guide to selecting diodes and capacitors designed to operate in switch-mode power supplies.

Other features include a guaranteed tolerance of 1.5% of the output voltage specified in the ± and output load conditions for the input voltage and output load conditions, and a ± 10% of the oscillator frequency. External shutdown with a typical standby current of 50μA. The output switch includes current limit, thermal shutdown, and full protection during fault conditions.

In order to simplify the design process of the LM2671 buck regulator, computer design software exists, The LM267X makes it simple (Version 6.0).
