AD5881Represents a significant advance in the field of advanced monolithic references. The device's low initial error and low temperature drift result in unprecedented monolithic absolute accuracy. It uses proprietary ion-implanted embedded Zener diodes and laser wafer drift adjustment of highly stable thin-film resistors to deliver excellent performance.
AD588A basic reference and three additional amplifiers provide pin-programmable output ranges. These amplifiers are laser trimmed with low offset and low drift to maintain the accuracy of the reference. The amplifier configuration allows a Kelvin connection to the load and/or booster to drive long line or high current loads, providing all the AD588 accuracy required by the application circuit.
The low initial error of the AD588 makes it suitable as a system reference for precision measurement applications requiring 12-bit absolute accuracy. In this system, the AD588 can be calibrated in software to provide a known voltage for system calibration, and low drift can compensate for drift in other components in the system. As a result, manual system calibration is not necessary and periodic recalibration costs are eliminated. In addition, using the AD588 with autocalibration software eliminates mechanical instability and improper calibration of the adjustment potentiometer.
The AD588 is available in seven variants. The AD588JQ and AD588KQ are available in a 16-lead CERDIP package and are specified over the 0°C to +70°C temperature range. The AD588AQ and AD588BQ are available in 16-lead CERDIP packages, and the AD588ARWZ is available in a 16-lead SOIC package and is specified over the industrial temperature range of −25°C to +85°C. The AD588TE and AD588TQ in ceramic packages are specified over the full military/aerospace temperature range.
Product Focus
- The AD588 provides 12-bit absolute precision without any user adjustment. It also offers optional precision adjustment connections for applications requiring higher precision. Precision tuning does not change the operating conditions of the Zener diode or buffer amplifier, so it does not increase temperature drift.
- The output noise of the AD588 is very low, typically 6 μV p-p. A noise reduction pin is also provided to further filter the noise with an external capacitor.
- The device offers a precision ±5 V tracking mode with a Kelvin output connection, eliminating the need for external components. Precision scaling can be used in applications with tracking error less than 1 mV and precise symmetry between the +5 V output and the −5 V output.
- Various outputs can be configured through pin-binding: dual outputs ± 5 V, +5 V, +10 V, −5 V, −10 V, or single outputs of +5 V, −5 V, +10 V, −10 V.
