The AD7981 is a 16-bit, successive approximation analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed for high operating temperatures. The AD7981 has a sampling rate of up to 600 kSPS while consuming low power consumption and is powered by a single-supply VDD. It is one of the fastest, most accurate, high-temperature, successive approximation (SAR) ADCs in a small package that provides a versatile serial port interface (SPI).
At the CNV rising edge, the AD7981 samples the analog input voltage difference between IN+ and IN- ranging from 0V to REF. The voltage reference (REF) is provided externally and can be independent of the supply voltage (VDD). The power consumption and throughput rate of the device change linearly.
The SPI-compatible serial interface also utilizes SDI inputs to daisy-chain several ADCs to a three-wire bus with optional busy indication. When employed as a standalone power supply VIO, it is compatible with 1.8V, 2.5V, 3V, and 5V logic.
For space-constrained applications, the AD7981 is available in a 10-pin small package (MSOP) with an operating temperature range of −55°C to +175°C. The package is designed for stability at extreme temperatures, including single-metal wire welding, and can operate for 1,000 hours at maximum temperature ratings.
