iCoupler devices do not use LEDs and photodiodes, so there are no design difficulties typically associated with optocouplers. The simple iCoupler digital interface and robust performance characteristics eliminate the current transfer ratio uncertainty, nonlinear transfer functions, and temperature and lifetime effects that optocouplers typically have. iCoupler products do not require external drivers and other discrete devices. In addition, the iCoupler device consumes only 1/10 to 1/6 the power of an optocoupler at a comparable signal data rate.
The ADuM1210 isolator provides two independent isolation channels that can operate from a 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage at either end, is compatible with low-voltage systems, and can translate voltage across the barrier. In addition, the ADuM1210 features low pulse width distortion (less than 3 ns) and tight channel-to-channel matching (less than 3 ns). Unlike other optocouplers, the ADuM1210 isolator has a patented refresh feature that ensures DC correctness during input logic conversion and power-up/shutdown. In addition, when the input power is turned off, the default output of the ADuM1210 is logically low, while the default output of the dual-channel digital isolator ADuM1200 is logically high.
