The iCoupler device does not use LEDs and photodiodes, so there are no design difficulties typically associated with optocouplers. The simple iCoupler digital interface and stable performance characteristics eliminate the problems that optocouplers typically have, such as uncertain current transfer ratios, maximum operating temperatures, and service life effects. These iCoupler products do not require external drivers and other discrete devices. In addition, the iCoupler device consumes only 1/10 to 1/6 the power of an optocoupler at a comparable signal data rate. iCoupler also offers higher channel density and more channel orientation options.
The ADuM131x isolator offers three independent isolation channels that support multiple channel configurations and data rates up to 10 Mbps (see Ordering Guide). All models operate from a 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage, are compatible with low-voltage systems, and are capable of voltage conversion across isolation barriers. All products allow users to pre-determine the default output state without VDD1 input power using simple control pins. Unlike other optocouplers, the ADuM131x isolator features a patented refresh feature that ensures DC correctness during input logic conversion and power-up/shutdown.
