The LM2674 series of regulators are monolithic integrated circuits with an LMDMOS process built in. These regulators provide all buck (buck) switching regulators with excellent line and load regulation at 500 mA with positive function of load current. These devices are available in fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5.0V, 12V, and adjustable output versions.
Requiring a minimum number of external components, these regulators are simple to use, including patented internal frequency compensation (patent 5382918 and 5514947) and fixed frequency oscillators.
The LM2674 series operates at a switching frequency of 260 kHz, allowing a small size ratio to the filter assembly required by lower frequency switching regulators. Due to its very high efficiency (> 90%), copper traces of the printed circuit board are the only heat dissipation required.
A home use LM2674 standard inductor is available from several different manufacturers. This feature greatly simplifies the design of switching power supplies using these advanced integrated circuit supplies. Also included in the datasheet is a guide to selecting diodes and capacitors designed to operate in switch-mode power supplies.
Other features include a guaranteed tolerance of 1.5% of the output voltage specified in the ± and output load conditions for the input voltage and output load conditions, and a ± 10% of the oscillator frequency. External shutdown with a typical standby current of 50μA. The output switch includes current limit, thermal shutdown, and full protection during fault conditions.
