The AD8801/AD8803 are potentiometer divider TrimDACs®Digital-to-analog converters, which provides eight digitally controlled DC voltage outputs that can replace mechanical regulators in new designs, making them ideal for DC voltage regulation applications.
The AD8801 has a midscale preset function that can be easily programmed through the microcontroller port of the serial interface, making it ideal for replacing potentiometers that adjust from nominal values. These devices are ideal for many applications, such as gain control in video amplifiers, voltage control frequency and bandwidth in video equipment, geometry correction and auto-tuning in CRT computer graphics displays, and more. The AD8803 can independently control the top and low sides of the potentiometer divider, allowing V to be passedREFLThe pin determines the zero-scale voltage setting individually. This feature helps maximize resolution for devices with a limited allowable voltage control range.
The AD8801/AD8803 contain eight voltage output digital-to-analog converters (DACs) that share a reference input.
Each DAC maintains its output state with its own DAC registers, which are updated by an internal serial-to-parallel shift register that loads data from a standard 3-wire serial input digital interface. The 11-bit data word is synchronously transmitted to the serial input register, which is decoded to determine the address of the DAC register where the last 8 bits of data need to be loaded. Operating from a 5 V supply, the AD8801/AD8803 consume only 5 mA. In addition, in shutdown mode, the reference input power consumption is reduced to 5 μA, leaving only the DAC latch settings for use after returning to normal operating mode.
The AD8801/AD8803 are available in 16-lead plastic DIP and 1.5 mm, SO-16 surface-mount packages.
