Glenair's new harsh environment optoelectronic active connectors provide connectivity and dielectric conversion between the electrical and optical domains.
To meet the need for ruggedized photonic packaging in commercial and military aerospace systems and other harsh environments, as well as an increased focus on weight reduction and small form factor technologies, Glenair has developed a revolutionary new line of optoelectronic products active multichannel receptacle connectors. They integrate transceiver technology to support fast/Gigabit Ethernet, SMPTE HD/3G SDI and HDMI video, as well as many high-speed data transfer protocols such as SFPDP, AFDX, and sRIO.
Utilizing Glenair's MIL-DTL-38999 and 80 Series Mighty Mouse high-performance connector technology, transmitter or receiver functions are integrated in a rugged No. 8 photoelectric contact with 1.25mm Arinc 801 or 2.5mm ELIO-compatible® multimode optical termination. Each contact supports 4.25Gbps, so the potential total bandwidth per active connector is up to 34Gbps
To meet the demand for extremely low data rates, Glenair introduced 8 optical contacts with lower speeds, supporting rates from DC to 1Mbps.For mixed-signal applications, hybrid optical copper versions of active connectors can be easily implemented.
Factory-tested photonic contacts are installed on the socket and can be used immediately as a fiber-to-the-board I/O connector.A gauge 8 cavity adapter can also be used to build a compatible mating plug connector on the fiber optic cable side.
The main markets are airborne, tactical, rail, industrial, oil and gas, and shipboarding.
