According to reports, Samsung Electronics has decided to transfer the production of Micro LED TVs from the Vietnamese factory to the South Korean factory, and plans to produce 89-inch Micro LED TVs based on LTPS TFT backplanes in the third quarter of this year, which are expected to be released by the end of this year, with a product price of about US$77,000 (about 510,000 yuan).
It is understood that in addition to the 89-inch product, Samsung will also produce 101 and 114-inch Micro LED TVs later this year, both of which use LTPS TFT backplanes.
The LTPS TFT backplane used by Samsung will be produced by AUO, and the 34x85 micron Micro LED chip will be supplied by Nitron, although the LTPS TFT panel may be provided by Samsung Display in the future. It is reported that Samsung Display has also developed LTPS TFT backplane products for Samsung Electronics' Micro LED TVs.
Previously, South Korean media had revealed that after the official launch of the 110-inch Micro LED TV, Samsung is stepping up its production and sales plan for 100-inch and 89-inch products.
The 89-inch Micro LED TV was originally planned to be launched in the first half of this year, but due to the explosive growth in demand for commercial micro LED displays and the shutdown of Samsung's Vietnam factory due to the new crown epidemic, Micro LED production capacity was insufficient, so production was delayed.
However, with Samsung's completion of the expansion of the Micro LED production line at its Mexican factory last year and the expansion of Micro LED production capacity to its Slovakian factory for the production of Micro LED commercial displays in early May this year, the production capacity of the Vietnamese factory was liberated for the production of 89-inch Micro LED TVs.
It is also worth noting that on June 18, Samsung's 110-inch The Wall Micro LED TV went on sale in China, priced at nearly 1.05 million yuan, and on the second day of sale, the JD.com platform showed that the first batch of product reservations were sold out.
