Infineon has built a new back-end plant in Thailand to optimize and enrich its production layout

[January 17, 2025, Bangkok, Thailand] Infineon Technologies PLC (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) has broken ground on its new semiconductor back-end production base located in Samut Prakan, southern Bangkok. The plant will optimize and further enrich the company's production layout. Dr. Rutger Wijburg, Chief Operating Officer of Infineon Technologies, officially met with Thai Prime Minister Phetonthan Shinawatra at the government building and today began construction of the new factory.

The first plant is scheduled to be operational in early 2026 and will be flexibly expanded according to market demand. In 2025, all expenditures for the new plant have been included in the company's capital expenditure forecast for the year. The project is supported by the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI). As global decarbonization and climate protection efforts continue to drive demand for power modules in industrial applications and renewable energy, this highly automated factory will play a key role in enriching Infineon's production footprint.

The investment from the Thailand National Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Industry Policy Committee, established in December 2024, along with Infineon, will greatly promote the development of the region's semiconductor industry and ecosystem, positioning Thailand as a key player in the global semiconductor industry. Infineon will help Thailand, located in the heart of Southeast Asia, build a robust semiconductor ecosystem covering key components and materials in the semiconductor supply chain. The company will accelerate the construction of the semiconductor ecosystem and cultivate skilled labor by deepening cooperation with local enterprises and institutions, while working closely with universities and local entrepreneurs to help cultivate highly skilled engineers with advanced semiconductor expertise. To enhance Thailand's competitiveness in AI, digitalization, and automation, Infineon has developed comprehensive training and education programs. The first batch of Thai engineers has successfully completed training at Infineon's other production sites.

Infineon is committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2030, making low-carbon efforts an indispensable part of the new factory's design and construction. Companies will continue to prioritize continuously reducing their carbon footprint across the entire value chain. The new factory will be equipped with solar modules and will produce renewable energy in-house.
