Infineon launches new business unit to strengthen its sensor and RF portfolio and drive profitable growth

The new business unit will take effect on January 1, 2025.

Infineon Technologies AG, a global leader in semiconductors in power systems, automotive, and IoT, announced on February 13 the establishment of a new business unit, merging its current sensor and radio frequency (RF) businesses into a dedicated division to drive the company's development in the sensor field. The newly established Sensor Units and Radio Frequency (SURF) business unit is part of the Power and Sensing Systems (PSS) business unit and covers previous automotive and multi-market sensing and control-related businesses.

By integrating its strengths in sensors and RF technology, Infineon fully leverages the synergy of cost and R&D to accelerate innovation and create greater value for customers, thereby enhancing its competitiveness and go-to-market strategy. By 2027, the sensor and RF market size is expected to exceed $20 billion, and this strategic initiative will fully capture this enormous market potential. The new business unit will take effect on January 1, 2025.

As devices become more intelligent and autonomous, sensor semiconductors are becoming ubiquitous components, connecting reality with the digital world: human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and environmental monitors make context-aware devices possible; Infineon's microphones based on advanced micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) play a crucial role in smartphones, wearables, and smart speakers, enhancing consumer experience through AI-based language solutions; Infineon's radar solutions achieve reliable object recognition in scenarios such as autonomous driving; In the fields of electric vehicles and industrial automation, Infineon's magnetic sensors have become a key technology for precise motion control, while Infineon's current sensors improve the energy efficiency of power inverters and batteries.
