X-FAB Silicon Foundries recently announced that it has increased its stake in Germany's MEMS Foundry Itzehoe GmbH (MFI) from 25.5% to 51%, becoming its major shareholder, and has renamed MFI to X-FAB MEMS Foundry Itzehoe.
Â
This move demonstrates X-FAB's focus on MEMS production services and technology. The Itzehoe fab has supplemented the recently announced MEMS production capacity and resources of the Erfurt X-FAB MEMS fab, adding technologies related to micro-sensors, actuators, micro-optical structures, and sealed wafer-level packaging processes.
Â
X-FAB MEMS Foundry Itzehoe will continue its long-term cooperation with the Fraunhofer ISIT MEMS Group, accelerating and exploring the commercialization of existing and emerging technologies, applications, and intellectual property in automotive and other markets.
Â
Thomas Hartung, Senior Vice President of Marketing at X-FAB Group, said, "Our customers will benefit from a broader range of MEMS technologies, which can be directly assigned."æ¥ä½¿ç¨X-FABçç产工åè¿è¡CMOSå

"The rich portfolio of multi-purpose MEMS-specific technologies at Itzehoe-based MEMS fabs, along with Fraunhofer ISIT's development expertise, greatly expands the capabilities of X-FAB technology products," said Dr. Peter Merz, Managing Director of X-FAB MEMS Foundry Itzehoe. "We are excited to offer comprehensive MEMS technology, including vacuum and optical wafer-level packaging, or TSVs supported by X-FAB's existing reliable wafer fab services. This combination of technologies gives X-FAB's customers access to a full suite of technologies, accelerating the product development and production cycle for miniature devices such as inertial sensors, micromirrors, and piezoelectric transducers."
